Semen Analysis
During the infertility evaluation, your physician may request that
your partner have a semen analysis.
The analysis will tell the physician:
- The sperm count - how many sperm are present
- The mobility - how well the sperm swim
- The volume - how much sperm is collected
- The forms - how well the sperm is formed
Procedure for analysis
Once you and your physician have decided that a semen analysis is
the next step in your infertility treatment, contact your insurance
company to determine if a semen analysis is a covered benefit. Our
office will need to know which laboratory is contracted by your
insurance, either CMC or Reproductive Endocrine Associates. If it
is not a covered benefit, either laboratory may be used. Then, contact
our office and an order form will be filled out by the office staff
and faxed to the appropriate laboratory. You may then schedule your
own appointment with CMC (704)355-3460 or Reproductive Endocrine
Associates (704)343-3429. It is important that the man not have
an ejaculation for 3 days prior to the semen analysis.
